Diploma in Lay Ministry

The Fourth Programme –

1. Function 

Basically, it is designed for students who will undertake studies in the Methodist Lay Training College as well as for all lay people who wish to further their studies in the discipline of a Catechist and lay preacher. It is to equip the catechist training in the sense of its relevancy to the context of today’s society. It is also designed to provide theological training to any women and men who wish to broaden their knowledge and the upgrading of their spiritual life. 

2. Objectives 

a) That students be nurtured in Christian faith, conduct and responsibilities so that they confirm Christ’s absolute leadership in their lives. 

b) Preparation for external examination to theological and Deaconess training. 

c) Catechist training which will enable them to cope with the new challenges in their field of work. 

d) Training Sunday School teachers and stakeholders for the importance of nurturing and rearing of children. 

e) Training for Youth leadership and community development which enhances quality leadership and spirituality. 

Entry Criteria:  

Complete Divisional School Certificate Program  Form 6/Year 12  Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as stated in Chap. 17 (1.3)

1. Duration

Due to the fact that this is a professional award, as well as a catechism formation programme, the Diploma in Lay Ministry is a three year residential course. 

2. Diploma in Lay Ministry Award 

To qualify for this award, a candidate has to gain a minimum of C– pass in all the 28 units. 

3. Certificate in Lay Ministry 

To qualify for this award, a candidate has to gain a minimum of C– pass in all the 15 units required.
