Therefore, students should be able to be equipped with essential knowledge on research, recording and referencing
3. ED421 Teaching Pedagogies

TM: I The course introduces teaching and learning. Teachers shapes their actions, judgments, and other teaching strategies by taking into consideration theories of learning, understandings of students and their needs, and the backgrounds and interests of individual students
4. ED532 Christian Education

This course is basically designed to assists the students in understanding the aims, methods and principles of Christian Education. It also includes special notes to educational mission field with practice in planning the religious education activities of the rural church.
5. ED413 Child Development
Prerequisites: Admission to any Certificate or Diploma Program

This course will help people understand the way children grow and develop in the first six years of their lives. There will be discussions and deliberations concerning the characters and skills of children during the above mentioned period. This will allow students to engage into the lives of children, and may broaden their knowledge in how to safely handle them if they are entrusted into their care. In fact, this is not a narrow scope of learning, as students will have to looking at the child, family, community, and nation as a whole in order to capture the real factors of child’s making.
6. ED514 Development Theories and Attachment Philosophy
Prerequisites: Attended Year 12 or Equivalent Prior Learning

This course will enable the learners to understand the various theories in Child Development. Leaners will be introduced to attachment patterns and interpersonal relationship. In this course, leaners will also learn range of philosophies, histories and cultural contexts in Fiji.
7. ED515 Personal Development
Prerequisites: ED514
TM: II
This course is designed to assist the learner for Childcare in ECE service in a professional and skillful manner. The scope of the course focus on to the learners formation. This begins with proper communication skills; personal health and wellbeing; handling of emergency situation; and safety of children. In another aspect, learners will also prepared to support children through using of E-learning platform.
8.ED516 Planning Activities and Evaluation for ECE
Prerequisites: ED515
TM: III
This course will assist the learners with the enriching of their learning experience and
interaction. It also emphasise on program planning in ECE service which runs in parallel with the “Na Noda Mataniciva”. This will also touch on the essential role of play and observation in the development and learning of children.
9. ED527 Operation and Set-Up of ECE service in Fiji
Prerequisites: ED516

The course is designed to prepare the learners to be aware and equipped with the
appropriate knowledge for the formulation of a new Kindergarten school. This also
covers the understanding of legislation and regulations relevant to the operation of
ECE centre. Another emphasis of this course is the promotion of inclusion regardless
of barriers.
10. ED528 Community Interaction
Prerequisites: ED527

This course will enable the learners to understand the building blocks of the Society.
It touches on the partnership between family and an ECE service with the understanding of the Family diversity in Fiji. This will encourage the examining of values and beliefs and how they influence ethics in relation to practice in an ECE service.
11. ED429 Teaching Practical: Kindergarten School
Prerequisites: ED516
TM: II
This is a practical course where students will gain personal/professional skills in managing an Early Childhood Centre. To support children’s development they have to work together with teachers, other professional parents and the community. They are required to set up indoor and outdoor learning environment and to plan the programme for a group of children. The Vuli Levu Kindergarten is the model Kindy where student trainees will do most of their practical work.
As part of ECE106, students are required to an 10 weeks practicum where the first week will be spent observing and 9 weeks teaching practice. A practicum handbook is prepared where tasks are allocated for each day.
12. ED4310 Childcare Practicum—Child Care Centre
Prerequisites: ED516
The course is designed in practical mode whereby learners will practice service to the children younger then the ones in the Kindergarten schools. Childcare ideology is the main focus of this practical session. Learners will be able to attain first hand experience of rearing young children.

This module is a practical course which exposes students to the of simple carpentry and joinery works. It aims to provide competencies and skills that will be so useful in community development works in places where they serve. It is a non-examinable course with no specific admission requirements but mandatory for all students in the Lay Ministry programme to attend.
2. VO232 Small Engine Repair

This module is a practical course which gives students a working knowledge and understanding of basic small engines repair. It aims to provide competencies and skills that will be so useful in community development. It is a non-examinable course with no specific admission requirements but mandatory for all students in the Lay Ministry programme to attend.
3. VO233 Plumbing
TM: III
This module is a practical course which enables students to do basic pluming works at home and in the community they serve. It aims to provide competencies and skills that will be so useful in community development. It is a non-examinable course with no specific admission requirements but mandatory for all students in the Lay Ministry programme to attend.
4.VO234 Agriculture

This module is a practical course which enables students to use appropriate basics of land preparation, sowing, planting, maintenance and harvesting of vegetables.

The course focuses on the events that led to the history of Israel with major attentions on Pre-History, calling of key personalities, the Patriarchs and the leaderships.

Overview of the Former and the Latter prophets. Analysis of the 8th century Prophets and attempting to understand the Themes and messages. The existence of the
two Kingdoms.

the Old Testament.
4. BS514 Introduction to New Testament

An overview of the New Testament structure; the relativity of administration in the
intertestamental period to the setting of New Testament; including the canonicity
and translation of the books in the NT.

This course is basically designed to assists the students in understanding the structures and background of the records of Apostles Work and each Epistle. By the end of this course students will be expected to have achieved a proficiency in contextualizing of text in Epistles and Acts which is sufficient to support them in preaching, Bible Study and other research.

significance to the Methodist mission.
10. CH522 Early Missionaries in Fiji

The course introduces the arrival of Missionaries to Fiji and the their work. Students
will be able to compare and contrast their missions together with our current missions. They should also develop their own mission in the ministry.
11. MN511 Wesleyan Spirituality

This course offers student an opportunity to engage in practicality of Wesleyan Spirituality. Student are expected to develop intimate relationship with God through
this course as they engage in in-depth study of spiritual holiness and nurturing and
caring .
12. MN512 Basic Homiletics

This course is designed to introduce students to the general principles and processes of preparing various types of sermon to preach the word of God faithfully. It assists the students to have a deep understanding of the theories of preaching, as
well as to know how to communicate effectively. All the activities of this course will
instruct students in how to communicate to the groups they preach to in their cultural context and audience’s level of education.
13. MN523 Family Ministry

This course provides the basic fundamentals of Family Ministry. It examines the
origin of family and the shift that took place today due to its challenges and eras
philosophies.
14. MN534 Community Empowerment Ministry

This course takes an integrated view of the role and relevance of empowering a
community in relation to both Christian teachings and individual living. It will equip
students with the tools that links Biblical teachings to real life situations
15. MN525 Youth Evangelism

This course offers students an opportunity to engage in in-depth study and development of basic concepts and techniques in evangelising youths. Students are expected to develop a personal style or method of evangelism to youths that are both Godly and contemporary
16. MN536 Pastoral Ministry

This course introduces students to basic understanding of Pastoral ministries. It
elaborates on relevant knowledge and skills which will be needed for Pastoral duties. Students are also expected to develop pastoral approaches that suits their
contemporaries.

This is an introductory course in Leadership that deals mostly with the types of leadership and its Biblical and Theological perspectives. It is also expected to instil in students, the right kind of leadership attitude and professionalism through interact with the people in the congregation or society and the observation of their future role in the ministry.

This course builds on the introductory course –MN527. Its major focus is basically the roles of leaders in a local church setting. It touches on roles and responsibilities in the Church; Church Constitution: and Church parameters.
19. MU411 Music: Tonic Solfar
Prerequisites: Admission to any Certificate or Diploma Programs

The primary focus of this course is to introduce students to music basics. Students will be expected to master its basics such as: History of Choral singing in Methodist church; singing postures; breathing, scales and intervals.
20. MU422 Music Part Writing
Prerequisites: MU411
TM: II
This course builds upon the foundations provided in MUS401 and offers students the opportunity to pursue individual lines of music, practice and expression in their preferred styles and gifts. Students continue to explore the roles of music in worship and living.
